Organisation von Männlichkeit. Die nationalsozialistische Sturmabteilung (SA) im Zweiten Weltkrieg

Abstract

Die Arbeit mit dem Titel Organisation von Männlichkeit. Die nationalsozialistische Sturmabteilung (SA) im Zweiten Weltkrieg befasst sich mit Aufgaben und Bedeutung der SA im Zeitraum von 1939 bis 1945. Im Fokus steht dabei die Rolle der SA in den von den Deutschen besetzten Gebieten, in der die Organisation eine wichtige Stütze bei der Inklusion der männlichen ‚Volksdeutschen‘ in die ‚Volksgemeinschaft‘ bildete. Die SA war auch eine tragende Gewaltorganisation und als solche in die Partisanenbekämpfung eingebunden. An der ‚Heimatfront‘ wiederum übernahm die SA Funktionen im Luftschutz sowie bei hilfspolizeilichen Maßnahmen. Zudem kämpften Hunderttausende SA-Männer als Soldaten in der Wehrmacht, in der sie in einer eigenen Division zusammengefasst werden sollten. Die Verbindung von Front und ‚Heimatfront‘ ebenso wie die Konstruktion des ‚politischen Soldaten‘ hatten eine nicht zu unterschätzende Bedeutung für die Kriegsteilnahme der SA. Auf drei verschiedenen Ebenen wird danach gefragt, wie Männlichkeit in Organisation und Mitgliedschaft der SA strukturiert wurde: Welche Bedeutung hat Männlichkeit für die Mitgliedschaft in einer ‚gierigen‘ Organisation wie der SA und welchen inkludierenden Einfluss übte die Organisation als Ganzes wie auch das Mitglied im Einzelnen auf die Ausformung von Männlichkeit aus? Welche Exklusionsmechanismen existierten demgegenüber? Mithilfe der theoretisch-methodischen Ansätze der historischen Männlichkeitenforschung und der Organisationssoziologie wird untersucht, inwiefern es sich bei der SA um eine ‚männliche Organisation‘ handelte. Anhand der vier verschiedenen Begriffen ist die Arbeit analytisch strukturiert: Freiwilliger Zwang, ‚Karriere‘, Kampf und Loyalität.

Organisation of Masculinity. The National Socialist Storm Troopers in the Second World War deals with the tasks and significance of the SA in the period from 1939 to 1945. The focus is on the role of the SA in the German-occupied territories, where the organisation formed an important pillar in the inclusion of the male ‚Volksdeutsche‘ in the ‚Volksgemeinschaft‘. The SA was also a supporting violent organisation and as such was involved in the fight against partisans. On the ‚home front‘, the SA took on functions in air-raid protection and in auxiliary police measures. Hundreds of thousands of SA men fought as soldiers in the Wehrmacht, in which they were to be grouped together in a separate division. Meanwhile, the connection between the front and the ‚home front‘ as well as the construction of the ‚political soldier‘ had great significance for the SA. On three different levels this work traces the question of how masculinity was structured in the organization and membership in the SA. What is the significance of masculinity for membership in a ‚greedy‘ organisation like the SA? What inclusive influence did the organisation as a whole, as well as the member individually, exert on the shaping of masculinity? What exclusion mechanisms existed in contrast? With the help of the theoretical-methodological approaches of research on the history of masculinities and the organisational theory and sociology, the extent to which the SA was a ‚male organisation‘ is examined. The analytical structure of this work bases on four different concepts: Voluntary Coercion, ‚Career‘, Struggle and Loyalty.
