Govindavilāsamahākāvya: Manuskripte, Text und Übersetzung

Abstract

Die vorliegende Dissertation gliedert sich in zwei große Bereiche. Der erste Teil stellt das Sanskrit-Gedicht Śrīgovindavilāsamahākāvya vor, indem zunächst Autorschaft und Abfassungszeit sowie das literarische Schaffen am Fürstenhof im 16. Jahrhundert diskutiert werden. Anschließend verortet dieser Teil nach einer inhaltlichen Zusammenfassung der einzelnen Kapitel das Gedicht im Genre des Mahākāvya, geht auf die Metrik ein ebenso wie auf die Verwendung poetischer Figuren und betrachtet das Werk schließlich im Lichte seiner beiden literarischen Vorläufer Bhāgavatapurāṇa und Gītagovinda, aus denen es schöpft. Die Einordnung in den religionsgeschichtlichen Zusammenhang schließt diesen Hauptbereich ab, bevor sich der zweite große Teil der Arbeit den beiden Textzeugen und vor allem dem Text als solchem widmet. Hier werden zuerst grammatikalische und sprachliche Besonderheiten festgehalten und die beiden Handschriften auch hinsichtlich ihres möglichen Verhältnisses zueinander untersucht, bevor nach Anmerkungen zur Einrichtung der Textausgabe und Übersetzung das Herzstück der Dissertation folgt: Edition und annotierte Übersetzung des Śrīgovindavilāsamahākāvya.

This dissertation is divided into two main parts. Part one introduces the Sanskrit poem Śrīgovindavilāsamahākāvya by first discussing questions of authorship and the time of composition as well as the role of court poetry in the 16th ct. After giving a summary of the poem’s individual chapters and situating it within its genre mahākāvya, this part offers a detailed analysis of the poem’s metrics and poetic devices. Furthermore, the poem is interpreted against the backdrop of its literary tradition, i.e. of its famous literary predecessors Bhāgavatapurāṇa and Gītagovinda on which it draws mainly in terms of content, and it is analysed within the context of religious history. The second part addresses the two textual witnesses and focusses on the text Śrīgovindavilāsamahākāvya itself. Peculiarities concerning grammar and language are listed, and the two manuscripts are described and examined with regard to their possible relation. After some introductory comments on the editorial approach taken in this dissertation, this part concludes with what is the core of the project: an editio princeps and annotated translation of the Śrīgovindavilāsamahākāvya.
